Volunteer Appreciation Barbecue
At its meeting on November 6, 2008, the Committee on Ballpark Improvements voting unanimously to recommend four projects to the SSSA Board for its consideration. The projects were (1) permanent foul lines ($2,900); (2) mister systems in the dugouts and the stands ($4,400); (3) water fountains in the dugouts ($2,600); (4) foul pole extensions ($1,625).

In order to provide an understanding of how monies are used in the SSSA, the following information from the SSSA Bylaws may be helpful:

When the Budget Committee prepares the annual budget, it should determine the funds necessary to cover the Operating and Maintenance costs. The dues should be set to cover the overwhelming majority of those costs.

Ballpark improvements should only be funded from funds obtained through fees from sign sponsors, team sponsors, league sponsors, tournament sponsors, raffles, golf tournaments, and donations.

Capital equipment requests will generally be funded by funds from member’s dues or from donations made for a specific capital improvement. When the ballpark improvement projects have been completely funded through the fees noted in the above paragraph, the Board may designate those funds for capital equipment requests.

At its November 10, 2008 meeting, the Board approved items (1), (3) and (4). The Board wishes to have your opinion on whether the mister systems should be installed in the dugouts and the stands.

Please complete the form by December 1, 2008. The Board will consider the mister proposal at its December meeting.

At the October 3, 2007 meeting, the Board considered and approved the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Committee on League Composition. The rule on Defensive Playing Time, that stated, "In the Recreation League a player may not sit on the bench for more than two innings per game", was to be used for the 2007 Fall Season and then reconsidered by the Board after the season.
Due to the short Fall season, the Board decided to continue using the rule for the 2008 Winter Season. It plans to review the rule and has decided to poll players for their input.
If you are playing in the Recreation League during the 2008 Winter Season, the Board encourages you to complete the survey so it may have your input. Other players familiar with the rule may are invited to complete the survey.
Please complete this form by March 29 at 5:00p.m. If you have any questions, please call Joe Lestingi at 818-2175 or e-mail him by clicking here.

Medical Emergency Information
The SaddleBrooke Senior Softball Association's Board of Directors is interested in providing as much help as possible to assist players and guests at the softball facility in the event someone needs emergency help. The Board arranged to install a 911 phone that is located in the tractor room of the storage building. When league games or tournaments are played, an extension phone is installed behind home plate.
After consulting with the Golder Ranch Fire District, it was learned when emergency responders arrive they generally want to have specific information about the person being treated. In many cases the person is unable to speak. The Golder Ranch Fire District recommended that the information contained on a form provided by the VIAL of LIFE Project be completed by each player and that form be carried in the player's bat bag.
If you are interested in obtaining more information about the VIAL of LIFE Project, click here.

The Vial of Life form is available as a PDF by clicking here. Since the completed form is kept in the player's possession, no one in the SSSA has access to the information.

If you have any questions, call Joe Lestingi at 818-2175 or e-mail him by clicking here.

Sun Issues

As you know, the SSSA now plays three games on Mondays and Fridays. It has observed that particularly on Fridays where the games tend to have a lot of runs scored, the third game is played at a time when the left and left center fielders have sun in their eyes for most of the game. The Board will consider various ideas on how to deal with this issue and would like your opinion of the items listed below.

If you are playing on Fridays, please complete the following form by Wednesday, January 27.

If you have any questions, call Joe Lestingi at 818-2175 or e-mail him by clicking here.

On Friday, June 15, 2007 SaddleBrooke Softball has arranged for four former University of Arizona Wildcat Softball players to present a three-hour skills clinic. The clinic will start at 9:00 a.m. Arrangements for the clinic were made by Loel Ray in conjunction with Erika Hanson and approved by the Board of Directors.
Forty five players may sign up for the skills clinic. SSSA men and women are invited. The fee for the skills clinic is $10.00.
The clinic will be held at the SaddleBrooke Softball Field, located adjacent to Edwin Road. To reach the field from the MountainView Clubhouse, take Clubhouse Drive south toward Edwin Road. After passing the DesertView Sports Club & Theater Center, turn right on Sand Crest Drive and then left on Oakwood Drive. The field is on the left.
The trainers are: Lindsey Collins (’01 Catcher), Chrissy Gil (’00 Outfield), Lindsay Robinson (’00 Outfield), and Erika Hanson (’01 1B/Outfield). They will cover fielding, throwing, and hitting. Although the trainers played fast-pitch softball, they will concentrate on slow-pitch hitting.
A check made payable to SSSA for $10 should be mailed to Joe Lestingi at 37637 South Terrace Park Drive, Tucson, AZ 85739-2212 by June 1, 2007.
Please complete the form as s0on as possible but no later than June 1, 2007.

The tournament will consist of three games. There will be a game for Recreation League players, a game for Community/Coyote League players and a game for Competitive League players. Game times are 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

The 2010 Summer Season will start Monday, July 19, 2010 and end on Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Before signing up, please click here to review information on league definitions and other signup considerations.
You may sign up for the leagues you believe are appropriate for your skill level. Rule 4 of the SSSA Rules of Play states, "A player may not play in both the Recreation League and the Competitive League". Thus you may select the Recreation League or the Competitive League, not both. The Thursday Coyote League is restricted to players who will be 60 years or older by December 31.
The Board is attempting to provide more playing opportunities for players of all skill levels with player safety being a major consideration in league assignment. Depending on the signup counts, there could be two leagues on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
The Committee on Team Selection (CTS) will determine the league in which a player will be assigned. For example, on Mondays, the CTS will determine if a player should play in the recreation league or the community league based on player skills, safety and improving the balance of teams in each league. In some cases a player may be asked to play in both leagues. The same is true for the other days of the week.
When the Committee on Team Selection (CTS) selects teams, it will attempt to limit the size of each team to a maximum of 13 players. If more than 13 players sign up for a league, the CTS will review the player signups for all leagues. Those players who are playing in the most leagues will be advised that there are too many players signed up for that league and will be asked not to play in that league. The CTS will select those players by a random draw.
If you are not able to play in the 2010 Summer Season, please select Will Not Play in Spring Season.
Registration for the 2010 Summer Season ends at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.
If you will not be at all of the games, please list the days you will not be able to play only for the leagues you signup for in the Days not available box.
If you have any questions, please call Joe Lestingi at 818-2175 or e-mail him by clicking here.
